LVN Classes Mean Job Security

The health care industry is booming, and as the population ages, the need for nurses grows. Nursing careers begin with LVN classes. An LVN, or licensed vocational nurse, is a nurse with many jobs and careers available to them. LVN classes are comprised of learning basic nursing skills, medical terminology, and anatomy and physiology. In addition, the nursing student will take a course in pharmacology. A pharmacology course involves learning about different medications and how they pertain to treating medical conditions. The nursing student will also learn about proper dosages and solutions that are involved in the administration of medications.

After completing LVN courses and getting a license, the nurse is able to take the state nursing boards. The nursing boards must be passed before the applicant is allowed to get a nursing license. After becoming an LVN, or LPN, which stands for licensed practical nurse, the nurse may want to continue with their education and seek an RN, or registered nurse degree. Becoming a registered nurse involved more classes and clinical time, however, once the RN student passes state boards for the professional registered nurse, more jobs with possibly higher pay open up. LVN classes are the beginning to a rewarding career in the health care field that can mean job security. With the nursing shortage, nurses are in great demand. LVN classes, and subsequent licensing can afford the nurse job opportunities in hospitals, doctors offices' and long term care facilities. Other career opportunities for the nurse include utilization review, auditing medical records and hospital bills, and working in an outpatient setting.

Taking LVN classes is a great way to begin a nursing career. Many times, students prefer to take LVN classes before embarking on an RN degrees. This way, they can see if this is a career path they enjoy before investing the time and perhaps extra expense that an RN degree program incurs. After completing the LVN classes, the student can always continue on to pursue classes in RN programs. In fact, many times, the licensed LVN may be able to "test out" of some of the basic nursing classes that are offered in the RN program, which may shorten the time of the program. Whichever program the prospective nursing student chooses, they may find that the health care field is one that may bring with it great success an job security.
